In our school: Please ask your classroom teacher or send an email to tabithagmeyer@gmail.com letting her know that you would like to volunteer within the school or classroom.
In our community: Each PTA newsletter ends with The Kindness Corner which lists ways in which you can get involved to help those in need. You can find those newsletters here under PTA newsletters.

Becoming a member of the WV PTA shows that you want to help support the programs and events that help enhance WV students' experiences at school. The only thing required of you to be a member of PTA is to pay the annual membership dues, which is an important part of the funding used to provide teacher stipends, and sponsor the Book Fair, Science Night, the Art Fair, the Carnival and Field Day.

The PTA puts every dollar collected back into Westwood View and the community. Last year, we spent $7000 on teacher enrichment, $3000 on staff appreciation, and we donated $1100 in gift cards to WV families in need. In addition, we pay for insurance to cover the activities that are sponsored by PTA, we provide a website and family directory, we cover expenses for the Ice Cream Social, Science Night, the Art Fair, Field Day and the Carnival.

It is PTA’s communication tool! Due to privacy laws, the school cannot release contact information, including email addresses. If you don’t have a Givebacks/Memberhub account, you will miss important emails from PTA and room parents. Please check your family’s account to make sure that your infomation is correct, especially hubs (on the right side of the page). Your hubs should show the grade and teacher for each of your children. If any information is not correct, please email Erin Kimmons.
Here is the log in page!

The Westwood View Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) is comprised of WWV parents and teachers who act as advocates for all the children in our community. The PTA, through the members and membership fees, supports WV teachers, volunteers in the school, and is responsible for planning and running the many fun and important community events for our school, including the Carnival, Book Fair, Art Fair, Science Night and Field Day. The PTA also plans many community service activities throughout the school year. Each year, we ask that all parents and guardians join the PTA so that we can continue to strengthen the Westwood View school community.
See a list of all the fundraisers, activities and community service sponsored by PTA here.

SMSD requires MVP training for persons who will be solely/directly responsible for SMSD students other than their own. Therefore, you need to be MVP-trained in order to volunteer in the classroom or school or to chaperone field trips.
Once trained, you do not have to repeat the process for 5 years. If you want to check to see whether or not your training is still valid, please email Rachel Beytien.
More information about MVP training and upcoming sessions can be found here.

The original school in this area, the Hudson School, was located about a block west of Rainbow on 48th Street and was built in 1914. We have pictures of the old Hudson School hanging in our stairway hall, showing a two-story structure that served children from first through eighth grades. In 1927, Hudson was replaced by a school located at 2511 West 50th Street and renamed Westwood View. In the mid 1950’s, the seventh and eighth grade students moved to the local junior/high school in Shawnee and Westwood View became an elementary school.
In 1969, Westwood View was rebuilt and housed the school until 2022. During the same year, many of the area schools decided to unify as one district and became Shawnee Mission School District. Shawnee Mission currently has 33 elementary schools, five middle schools and five high schools. Westwood View students go to Indian Hills Middle School (64th and Mission Road) for seventh and eighth grades and continue to Shawnee Mission East High School (75th and Mission Road).
In 2022, the new Westwood View building was completed at 4935 Belinder Avenue and students began the 2022-2023 school year in the new building.
